Manny Diaz's Early Life

Manny Diaz was born in Miami, Florida, on May 3, 1959. He attended Miami Killian High School, where he was a standout football player. Diaz was a two-time All-State selection and was named the Miami Herald's Defensive Player of the Year in 1976. He was also a member of the 1976 Miami Killian team that won the state championship.

After graduating from high school, Diaz attended Florida State University, where he played football for the Seminoles. He was a four-year starter at safety and was named an All-American in 1981. Diaz was also a member of the 1980 Florida State team that won the national championship.

Manny Diaz's Coaching Career

After graduating from college, Diaz began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Florida State. He then spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator at Delta State University before returning to Florida State as the linebackers coach in 1989. Diaz was promoted to defensive coordinator in 1995 and held that position until 2009.

In 2010, Diaz was hired as the head coach at Middle Tennessee State University. He led the Blue Raiders to a 7-5 record in his first season and was named the Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year. Diaz left Middle Tennessee State after the 2012 season to become the defensive coordinator at the University of Texas.

Diaz spent three seasons as the defensive coordinator at Texas before being hired as the head coach at the University of Miami in 2019. He led the Hurricanes to a 6-7 record in his first season and was fired after the 2021 season.

Manny Diaz's NFL Career

After being fired from Miami, Diaz was hired as the defensive coordinator for the New York Jets in 2022. He helped the Jets improve their defense from one of the worst in the NFL to one of the best. Diaz was fired after the 2022 season.

In 2023, Diaz was hired as the defensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is currently in his first season with the Steelers.
